Day 5 In Japan

Day 5 was filled with friends, food and fond memories. The day may have been damp and gloomy but our spirits were lifted as we spent the day seeing good friends and eating good food.

What was special about this lunch outside of meeting good friends was where it took place.

Thie floor plan of this restaurant was the inspiration for the Crazy-88 fight scene in The movie Kill Bill.

The restaurant has a great ambience to it.

From the lamps that were strung the width of the restaurant, to the rope that is used has hand railing, the wood of the stairs, all of it tied together to give a get experience.

After lunch we took the train across town and visited another friend near my wife's previous apartment. The location brought back a lot of memories. We had just packed up and moved all her belongings just one year ago. I remember carrying boxes down the nearby road to the post office and struggling with giant suitcase. This time we only carried our backpacks and visited friends

We had some time to spare before dinner so we traveled to Roppongi Hills and stopped by a Starbucks. A side note, Japanese like to abbreviate some names of places, Starbucks is no exception and is referred to as "Staba” (スタバ)

Time for dinner!

One of my favorite restaurants

It was last year when we were leaving Japan when I discovered Pound-Ya. We we're at Haneda airport at night and I was walking down the terminal when I spotted a small stand selling Wagyu beef.

The plate they serve contains a intensely hot stone which you cook the meat upon. They provide dipping sauces to add flavor. It was one of these sauces that made me fall in love with this restaurant and why it was on the list of places to revisit.

So concludes day 5. Lots of friends, food and fond memories to tie us over. We grabbed our bags and headed back on the train later that night to Kawagoe where our adventure continues.
